Carte Bleue UE : Votre Passerelle pour Travailler en Europe

The EU Blue Card is a work and residence permit for highly qualified non-EU nationals. Revised in 2024, it offers a streamlined pathway to work and eventually settle in most EU member states.

Who Can Apply?

You need a higher education degree (at least bachelor's level) or 5 years of relevant professional experience. You must have a job offer or binding employment contract in an EU member state with a salary meeting the country-specific threshold.

Salary Requirements by Country

Germany requires approximately EUR 45,300/year (lower for shortage occupations at EUR 41,000). France sets the bar at 1.5x the average gross salary. Most countries range between EUR 40,000-55,000 annually. STEM and healthcare professionals often qualify for reduced thresholds.

Key Benefits

The revised Blue Card allows EU-wide mobility after 12 months, family reunification rights, a path to permanent residence after 33 months (or 21 months with language proficiency), and the right to work in a second EU country. Periods of unemployment up to 3 months don't affect your status.

Application Process

Apply at the embassy or consulate of the EU country where you'll work. Processing typically takes 4-12 weeks. Required documents include your degree, employment contract, passport, and health insurance proof. Some countries allow applying while on a tourist visa within the EU.
